Update: This builds on my earlier post, Daemonarchy Puts the Omarchy Desktop on FreeBSD.
The Register dug into who’s behind Daemonarchy: Jordan Hubbard, one of the original FreeBSD founders (and a former Apple engineer who worked on the BSD layer under Mac OS X). It’s an independent project, not affiliated with Omarchy, that ports Omarchy’s tools to FreeBSD and bundles them into an installable ISO. The current version is 1.3.1, and it’s gone through about 10 releases in roughly 10 days.
The AI angle
The repo includes AGENTS.md and SKILL.md files pointing to Hubbard’s Literate AI project, a “meta-harness” for coding agents. The Register says that could stir up FreeBSD’s ongoing debate about AI contributions. Their reviewer also isn’t a big Omarchy fan, but even they admit it keeps growing.
My take
A FreeBSD founder building an Omarchy-style desktop with AI help is a pretty big compliment. If you want to try it, use a spare machine or a VM.
Review before you install: read the docs and any script or package yourself before running it, and try it somewhere you can afford to break first.
God Bless, and Use the Source!
