Churches Are Being Destroyed in Ukraine, and Faith Is Growing Anyway

This one isn’t about politics. It’s about what God does when buildings fall.

The numbers

According to a Christian Post op-ed, at least 737 places of worship in Ukraine have been damaged or destroyed, and faith leaders have been killed and tortured. Yet more than 3,000 new religious organizations have registered since the invasion began, about a 10% rise. 74% of Ukrainians now call themselves believers, up from 68%. Among 18- to 24-year-olds, it jumped from 48% to 61%.

The writer describes young people caring for the elderly, hauling generators into bombed-out sanctuaries, and singing loud for those who can’t.

My take

The Church was never the building. “I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it” (Matthew 16:18). Pray for comfort for the grieving, protection for pastors, and that this outpouring among young people keeps burning.

God Bless, and May the Source Be with You!
