Last time I wrote that Fedora 45 hit a second NO-GO and was aiming for November 3. This time it stuck.
What’s new
At Thursday’s Go/No-Go meeting, Fedora 45 was declared GO after the blocker bugs were fixed. The official release is Tuesday, Nov 3, and the RC 1.4 images are the ones that will be mirrored. Highlights include KMSCON replacing the in-kernel console, Stratis storage in the Anaconda installer, better Snapdragon X laptop support, ptrace restricted by default, signature checking enforced by default, reproducible package builds and the DRM Panic screen. Workstation gets GNOME 51, along with Python 3.15, GCC 16.2, Glibc 2.44, LLVM 23 and RPM 6.1.
My take
Tighter ptrace and enforced signatures are the security defaults I like to see. If you want it on day one, wait for Tuesday’s announcement rather than grabbing random images.
God Bless, and Use the Source!
