A new Vulkan spec revision is out, with two things worth noting.
What’s in it
First, there’s a new driver ID for Borealis, the Apple Silicon Mesa Vulkan driver fork I wrote about before. Second, there’s a new extension, VK_KHR_maintenance12, from Valve’s Mike Blumenkrantz with engineers from NVIDIA, Nintendo, LunarG and AMD. Like earlier maintenance extensions, it bundles small fixes: non-uniform indexing within PushConstant variables, single-aspect depth/stencil blits and resolves, a dedicated limit for input attachment indices, and allowing pQueuePriorities to be NULL.
My take
Not flashy, but these little cleanups are what make drivers and games behave. Seeing Borealis get an official ID is a good sign for Linux graphics on Apple Silicon.
God Bless, and Happy hacking!
