India Launches NVS-03 to Fill Out Its NavIC Navigation System

India launched its NVS-03 navigation satellite on a GSLV Mark II from Satish Dhawan Space Centre on Oct 30, and ISRO says it reached its planned transfer orbit.

Why it matters

  • NVS-03 is the third next-gen satellite for NavIC, India’s regional answer to GPS, covering India and about 1,500 km beyond.
  • NavIC has only three fully working satellites right now and needs four for full service, so this launch is a big deal.
  • It was the 14th GSLV Mark II flight (12 successes) and India’s fourth launch of 2026.

My take

More countries running their own navigation systems means less dependence on any single one. That’s resilience, same idea as not putting all your services on one box.

God Bless, and Happy hacking!
