GNOME Adopts a Formal RFC Process, and GNOME OS Gets LDAC and NVIDIA Fixes

GNOME now has a formal Request for Comments (RFC) process for big technical decisions, replacing the old ad-hoc way. Sophie Herold led it, and the stakeholders reached consensus.

Also this week

  • Nautilus improvements, and GNOME Software is smarter about icons and remote assets.
  • GLib supports XDG Intents, so apps can register for things like “open in terminal” and URI schemes.
  • GNOME OS: LDAC Bluetooth audio in PipeWire, Zswap fixes, extra codecs on by default, and NVIDIA work for Snap apps and the R615 driver.

My take

An RFC process sounds boring, but it’s how big projects stop having the same fight over and over. Write it down, argue once, decide. And GNOME OS keeps looking more like a real distro.

God Bless, and Use the Source!
