openSUSE Leap 16.1 Is Out, and Leap Micro’s Immutable Mode Is Now Built In

openSUSE Leap 16.1 is out, built from the same sources as SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 16.1, Phoronix reports.

  • Leap Micro, the immutable server flavor, is now part of Leap itself as an “immutable mode”
  • KDE Plasma 6.6, with GNOME 48 also available
  • Linux 6.12 LTS stays the default kernel

My take

Having immutable as a mode instead of a separate distro makes it a lot easier to try. Nice timing too, with SUSE cutting staff this week (post).

Review before you install: read the release notes yourself, back up your config, and try new versions somewhere you can afford to break first.

God Bless, and Happy hacking!
