openSUSE Leap 16.1 is out, built from the same sources as SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 16.1, Phoronix reports.
- Leap Micro, the immutable server flavor, is now part of Leap itself as an “immutable mode”
- KDE Plasma 6.6, with GNOME 48 also available
- Linux 6.12 LTS stays the default kernel
My take
Having immutable as a mode instead of a separate distro makes it a lot easier to try. Nice timing too, with SUSE cutting staff this week (post).
Review before you install: read the release notes yourself, back up your config, and try new versions somewhere you can afford to break first.
God Bless, and Happy hacking!
