Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas voted Oct. 25–26 to sever ties with the UMC, The Christian Post and UM News report. Of 4,775 votes cast, 90.35% said leave. About a third of professing members voted.
What’s next
Leadership said they will worship as Highland Park Methodist Church and aim to finish operational changes by Dec. 1, 2026, citing historic autonomy and voice in choosing clergy. The vote lands amid litigation with the Horizon Texas Conference over 2022 bylaw changes. The conference has said a congregational vote alone does not legally end the UMC relationship.
My take
Church fights over property and polity are messy. Ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom, not for a team jersey. “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone” (Romans 12:18). Pray for both the congregation and the conference.
God Bless, and May the Source Be with You!
