Apple Puts Employees on an AI Budget as Token Costs Bite

Bloomberg via MacRumors and Slashdot: Apple cut some engineers’ daily AI spend from $300 to $200 in October, with talk of $100 next. Some non-engineering teams already at $100 could drop to $25. Exemptions exist; some groups are pointed at cheaper or on-device models.

Context

Staff can use Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and others. Few were hitting the old $300 ceiling, so savings may be modest. Outside consultants plus the caps have people whispering about restructuring under CEO John Ternus.

My take

Even Apple is learning that “unlimited coding agents” is a line item. Budget the tokens, or the CFO will.

God Bless, and May the Source Be with You!
