Phoronix ran its first performance comparison of Omarchy against upstream Arch Linux and CachyOS, right after Omarchy 4.5 shipped.
The setup
- A Framework Desktop with AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 “Strix Halo,” 64GB RAM, Radeon 8060S graphics and a 2TB NVMe drive.
- Arch via archinstall with KDE Plasma, CachyOS at defaults, and Omarchy 4.5 stock.
- CachyOS is on Linux 7.3; Arch and Omarchy were on 7.2. All three use GCC 16.2.
- Omarchy defaults to the performance power profile, while Arch and CachyOS default to balanced. CachyOS also ships Zen 4+ optimized packages and other tuning.
My take
Keep those defaults in mind when you read the charts. Some of the gap is down to the power profile and kernel version, not “distro magic.” Read the full results before you switch your daily driver.
God Bless, and Happy hacking!
