Nice one for Linux desktop folks: Affinity, the design suite Canva bought and made free last year, is officially coming to Linux.
The Affinity account on X said a Linux version is “in active development.” There’s no ETA, and they haven’t said whether it’ll be a native build or use some kind of compatibility layer.
Right now people run it through Wine with community work, and that mostly works but has quirks with Canva sign-in, hardware acceleration, UI scaling and updates. An official build should mean someone gets paid to fix those.
My take
Pro creative apps have been one of the last reasons people keep a Windows or Mac box around. Affinity on Linux, next to GIMP, Inkscape and Krita, makes switching a lot easier. I’ll believe it when I can install it on Omarchy, but I’m glad it’s real.
God Bless, and Use the Source!
