Keyboard defaults start religious wars. OmarchyCentral reported on October 11 that the next Omarchy release will leave Caps Lock as Caps Lock again, and move compose to Shift+Caps Lock. I am treating that as a community report until it lands in an official release note — one outlet is not a changelog, and I will not pretend otherwise.
Why it matters anyway
Omarchy’s early defaults surprised people. Remapping Caps is fine for tiling-window power users who live in a carefully tuned rice. It is hostile for everyone else who just wants to yell in a document or hit Caps out of thirty years of muscle memory. If the report is right, the project is choosing familiarity over cleverness. I am fine with that.
Compose keys still matter for anyone who types in more than one language or needs real punctuation without memorizing Unicode. Shift+Caps is a workable compromise if the docs are clear and the setting is easy to flip in the first five minutes after install.
Verify before you retrain your fingers
Wait for the official release notes or the defaults file in git before you rewrite your muscle memory — or your Ansible keyboard role. Community blogs are useful smoke signals. They are not the signed artifact. When the change is real, I will update my notes. Until then, call it reported, not shipped.
I will keep these notes short and factual on purpose. Omarchy moves fast, community blogs move faster, and my job on this site is to separate “interesting rumor” from “I would put it on a machine I care about.” When official docs catch up, the tone can get firmer.
Have a blessed day!
