Daniel in Babylon: Settle Who You Are Before the System Tells You

Kap Chatfield wrote a piece for Charisma on Daniel in Babylon, and it ties straight into what I think about every day: AI.

Daniel drew his line early

Babylon gave Daniel a new name, a new language, a new education and a seat at the king’s table. It wanted to turn him into a Babylonian. But “Daniel resolved not to defile himself” (Daniel 1:8). He drew the line at the table, and then he stayed and served so well that kings kept promoting him, “because an excellent spirit was in him” (Daniel 6:3).

Our Babylon

Chatfield’s point is that the pressure today is quieter than a lions’ den. The platforms we use weren’t built by people who share our faith, and AI comes with its own defaults. Hand it your work without telling it who you are and it fills in the blanks with its voice and its assumptions.

His action step: write a one-page “Digital DNA” (your calling, convictions, voice and the lines you won’t cross) and pray over it first. “Ask God who He says you are before you tell a machine.”

My take

I love that he put prayer before the prompt. Your identity doesn’t come from a model, a feed or a job title. It comes from the Father: “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1). Let the Holy Spirit settle that in you first, then go serve with an excellent spirit like Daniel did.

God Bless, and May the Source Be with You!
