Elsewhen, Omarchy’s World Clock, Learns Real Places

Elsewhen is the little globe in the center of the Omarchy bar (Super + Ctrl + Alt + E) that opens a world clock with weather and a daylight strip for each city. Jason Fried created it, and Ryan Hughes just merged an update into the quattro branch that’s coming in the next version.

What’s new

  • The problem, in the PR’s words: “Elsewhen thinks in time zones, and a time zone isn’t a place.” Someone in Fort Lauderdale got “here in New York” and New York’s weather.
  • Now “Add a city” and the globe’s jump box also ask Open-Meteo’s keyless geocoder, so real towns show up.
  • You can tell it where “here” actually is, and see who lives in each city.

My take

Small touch, big quality-of-life win. Jason Fried replied that he’d had something like it in an earlier build and likes this solution. I love watching these little details get polished.

Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
