Enlightenment 0.28 Is Out After Nearly Two Years: NetBSD, NetworkManager, PipeWire

Carsten “Rasterman” Haitzler released Enlightenment 0.28 on Halloween, the first big update since 0.27 in early 2025.

What’s new

  • Initial NetBSD support.
  • A NetworkManager module for wired, wireless and VPN connections.
  • Native PipeWire mixer support, with PulseAudio still supported.
  • New window actions, better client-side decoration handling, display mode sorting, backlight filtering and window switching.
  • Under the hood: better pixmap handling, X connection recovery and a cleaner nested Wayland shutdown. Both X11 and Wayland are still supported.

My take

Enlightenment is still the lightweight eye-candy option, and it’s great to see it moving again. NetBSD support is a nice nod to the BSD folks. I’m happy on Omarchy and Hyprland, but this one is worth a spin in a VM.

God Bless, and May the Source Be with You!
