Evangeline Lilly, the actress a lot of us know from Lost and The Hobbit, stepped back from Hollywood back in 2020. Six years in, she told CBN the decision was “made in great conviction,” even though it meant letting go of “power, influence, and potential money.”
What she said
She was honest that it wasn’t easy. When the world tells you you’re amazing, “how do you walk away from that?” She admitted to moments of “gripping fear.” But before acting she wanted to be a missionary or humanitarian, and she’s put in 22 years of hands-on humanitarian work in Rwanda. Now she wants to help people heal and find wholeness, and tell stories of her own instead of standing in front of a camera.
My take
That’s what it looks like when the Spirit puts a holy restlessness in someone. Jeremiah 29:11 says He knows the plans He has for us, plans to give a hope and a future. Sometimes following that means walking away from the applause. Fear shows up, but conviction is louder. I’m praying her next chapter is full of fire.
