Five Bright Planets to Catch in November

November is a great month for planets, Space.com says. Here’s the quick version.

  • Saturn: well up in the south in mid-to-late evening. Its rings are tilted only about 6.5 degrees to us
  • Mars and Jupiter: rise in the east-northeast around the middle of the night and sit high in the south before dawn near the Sickle of Leo. Mars passes Jupiter on Nov. 16
  • Venus: a bright lamp in the east-southeast before dawn, climbing as the month goes on
  • Mercury: after the second week, low and bright to the lower left of Venus. Greatest western elongation is Nov. 20, its best morning showing of the year for mid-northern observers

Tip: your fist at arm’s length covers about 10 degrees of sky.

My take

“The heavens declare the glory of God” (Psalm 19:1). Set an early alarm one morning and look.

God Bless, and Happy hacking!
