That didn’t take long. MacRumors reports that just hours after release, hacker team Calif jailbroke an iPhone Duo running iOS 27.1.
What we know
- Calif showed the Duo’s icons and widgets bouncing around and an anime character added to the screen.
- Last week the same group showed an untethered jailbreak on an iPhone 18 Pro running iOS 27.0.1, with root access surviving a reboot.
- It isn’t public. Calif’s Stefan Esser told Heise there won’t be a tool for “end users,” though a proof of concept may come.
- Esser says the bugs are already disclosed or will be disclosed to Apple soon, and “most” are fixed in the upcoming iOS 27.2.
- AI helped develop the jailbreak, but Esser didn’t say how.
My take
A day-one jailbreak on brand-new hardware, built with AI help, says a lot about how fast bug hunting is moving. For normal folks the move is simple: install iOS 27.2 when it lands, and don’t download anything that claims to be “the Duo jailbreak,” because there isn’t a public one.
Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
