This one stopped me cold. Christian Today reports that hundreds of Christian widows in Nigeria’s Plateau State are rebuilding after losing husbands, homes and farms to repeated attacks on Christian farming villages. And when they’re asked how believers elsewhere can pray, they don’t start with money.
What’s happening
- A mission worker named Dominique has spent eight months in Jos with City Ministries, a partner of SIM, in the Miango area, home to more than 500 of these women.
- Teams worship and pray with the widows, wash their feet and give them new leather sandals, modeled on Jesus washing the disciples’ feet.
- The ministry helps with medical bills and school fees, helps younger women earn a living and rebuild, and offers trauma support and Christian camps.
- “They always ask for prayer for their faith,” Dominique said. “That Christ would give them the strength to forgive when it gets hard.”
- Her takeaway: “Prayer is our greatest weapon.”
My take
These sisters have lost everything, and they’re asking for strength to forgive. That’s not human. That’s the Holy Spirit living in them. “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.” The Comforter is real and He’s in Plateau State right now.
So let’s do what they asked. Pray for their faith, pray for healing from the trauma, and pray for the ministries washing their feet. They told Dominique that just knowing they’re remembered is a comfort. Let’s remember them.
Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
