OpenCV 5.1 is out, Phoronix reports, building on the 5.0 rewrite.
- New AVX-512 and other SIMD optimizations, plus AVX-VNNI improvements
- Expanded FP8 support
- The classic DNN engine is removed; only the new 5.0 engine remains
- CUDA and cuDNN improvements, new RISC-V RVV kernels
- An OpenGL 3D visualizer for meshes, point clouds and RGB-D frames
- Better Java, JavaScript and Python bindings, and hundreds of bug fixes
My take
If you still depended on the old DNN path, budget time to move before you upgrade.
Review before you install: read the release notes yourself, back up your config, and try new versions somewhere you can afford to break first.
God Bless, and Use the Source!
