Apple’s HomeView isn’t even in most people’s hands yet, and the next one is already in the rumor mill.
What’s rumored
In his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple is working on a higher-end HomeView, code-named J595, planned for 2027 or 2028.
- It looks like the current HomeView but has a roughly 9-inch screen, up from 7 inches.
- The display sits on a motorized robotic arm that can swivel a full 360 degrees.
- Using voice recognition, it’s designed to figure out who’s speaking and turn toward that person.
- Names like HomeView Max, HomeView Ultra or HomeView 360 are just Gurman’s guesses for now.
For context, the current $299 HomeView has a fixed 7-inch screen, so if you put it on a table with people all around it, somebody has to turn it by hand. This rumor is Apple’s answer to that.
My take
It’s a rumor and it’s a year or two out, so I wouldn’t change any plans over it. The bigger idea is interesting, though: Apple’s robotics work showing up first as a smart home screen that follows the conversation. For anybody building out Apple Home now, the HomeView we already know about is the one to look at.
Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
