Code sleuth pdfu found settings strings in HomeView Software 27.2 suggesting the hub could work as a HomeKit Secure Video camera, MacRumors reports.
What the strings show
- Four modes: Off, Detect Activity, Stream, and “Stream & Allow Recording,” with schedules for home, away or asleep
- A 1080p/30fps video config with mic input for HomeKit Secure Video
- Only home members can view streams; a green light and sound when a stream or recording starts; a notification when camera settings change
- Streaming and recording can only be turned on from the HomeView itself while people are home
Apple hasn’t announced this, and strings don’t mean it ships at launch. HomeView goes on sale November 13 from $299.
My take
If it happens, the privacy guardrails (green light, members only, notifications) look right. Unconfirmed though, so grain of salt.
