If you run more than one screen on Omarchy, this is the change to watch. Ryan Hughes merged a PR on October 18 that gives every monitor its own workspaces 1 to 10, “the way Niri does it.” It lands in the next version.
What changes
- Super + 2 now goes to workspace 2 on the monitor you’re on, and each monitor’s bar only shows its own workspaces.
- Super + 1-0, Super + Shift + 1-0, Super + Tab and Super + scroll all follow the focused monitor.
- Super + Shift + Alt + Arrows moves the current workspace to the next monitor. New: Super + Shift + Ctrl + Arrows moves the focused window to the neighboring monitor.
Behind the scenes Hyprland still numbers globally, so each monitor owns a block of ten (laptop 1-10, next screen 11-20). The block is tied to the monitor’s make, model and serial, not the port, so it comes back the same every time you plug in. Unplug a screen and its workspaces merge into the one left, then return when you reconnect.
Known gaps
Saved per-workspace layouts are keyed by number, so a renumbered workspace doesn’t take its layout with it, and monitors that only touch at a corner can’t reach each other with the arrow binds. Ryan tested it on an N1x with three external displays.
My take
“Super + 1 sends me to the wrong screen” is one of those papercuts every multi-monitor tiling user knows. Per-monitor workspaces fix the mental model. Pair that with the faster browser launches in Omarchy 4.0.5 and the desktop keeps getting snappier.
