Raspberry Pi raised prices again. Starting this month, the Raspberry Pi 5 with 16GB of RAM is $385 from approved resellers, up another $80.
According to OMG! Ubuntu, that board launched at $120 in 2025, went to $205 early this year, then crept up to $305. The 16GB Compute Module 5 also goes up $40. The Pi 500+ keyboard PC stays the same for now.
Why
It’s the memory crunch. AI data centers are buying up RAM, and there aren’t enough suppliers. Raspberry Pi says it wants to roll the prices back once memory gets cheaper. Some in the industry don’t expect that until the mid-2030s.
My take
A $385 Pi isn’t really a hobby board anymore. Ask yourself how much RAM your project actually needs. For a DNS filter, a NetFlow collector or a small home lab job, a 2GB or 4GB board still works fine. A used mini PC might also get you more for the money.
God Bless, and May the Source Be with You!
