UC Davis Math Says the Universe Might Not Need Dark Energy

A new paper in Proceedings of the Royal Society A challenges one of cosmology’s biggest ideas.

The claim

UC Davis mathematicians led by Blake Temple studied the Einstein-Euler equations and say the Friedmann spacetimes behind the standard model of expansion are unstable, like a pencil balanced on its tip. “Any breath of air and it falls away.” If the universe naturally drifts off that balance, its accelerating expansion could come straight from Einstein’s equations, with no mysterious dark energy needed.

My take

It’s math, not an observation yet, so it needs testing. But I love it when the simpler answer turns out to be in the original equations. “He stretches out the heavens like a canopy” (Isaiah 40:22).

God Bless, and Use the Source!
