Another update on Apple’s touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro (see the launch, why Apple added touch and turning it off). Nicolas Lellouche of Numerama shared 15 details from Apple’s hands-on, via MacRumors. The ones I found most interesting:
- Keyboard and trackpad stay primary. Touch is extra.
- Window “traffic light” buttons and list items spread out when touched.
- Swipe up for the Dock, swipe down for Spotlight/Siri AI, long-press to right-click.
- Grab a window and flick it left or right for Split View.
- Close the lid with a finger on the screen and touch is briefly disabled. You can’t wake it by touch.
- The camera is stabilized, so tapping doesn’t shake your video call.
- 10-finger multi-touch, iPhone Live Activities in the Dynamic Island, and settings to turn off touch and the glowing logo.
Pre-orders are open, and they ship Friday, November 6.
My take
The flick-for-Split-View and lid-close touch lockout show Apple actually thought through laptop touch instead of bolting on an iPad. I’m curious how it holds up once real folks get them.
God Bless, and Happy hacking!
