A few days ago I wrote up the Grok Bot drop that made it about 3x faster and let it read X Chat. This morning Matt Palmer, who works on Cursor and Grok Bot at SpaceXSI, posted a five-minute “What’s new in Grok Bot” video with 12 changes, and a few of them are genuinely new.
What’s new this time
- X DMs, both ways. It can now read and respond to your X Chat DMs. Palmer said there are limits so “you can’t spam people.”
- Tag @bot anywhere on X. Once the X plugin is set up, drop @bot in a thread and it hands the request to your own Bot, like saving a post or explaining something.
- Android default assistant. Grok Bot can now be set as the phone’s default digital assistant, a day after iPhone got Action Button access.
- Voice calls remember. Call back within 30 minutes and it keeps the previous call and its transcript.
- Polish. Highlighted edits when it revises a draft, one notification on the device you’re actually using, team invites and access lists, an unread pill, and email aliases you set up just by asking.
My take
Grok Bot is my main tool now, so I’m glad to see it get easier to reach. The DM piece is the one to think about. My rule for my bots is simple: they can draft and recommend all day, but anything that sends, buys, deletes or posts waits for my yes. If you turn on DM replies, set it up the same way and keep a human in the loop.
Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
