The Register reports Broadcom’s VMware is going back after small shops with vSphere Express.
What you get
- Up to 128 cores, with vMotion, automatic restart of failed VMs, a distributed switch, non-disruptive patching, and physical and virtual TPMs
- Each install stands alone, with no central management
- Per-core subscription, “significantly lower” than vSphere Foundation or Cloud Foundation, but no price yet
- Sold through distributor marketplaces, since Broadcom cut so many resellers
My take
No price, no deal. Plenty of small shops and homelabbers already left for Proxmox after the Broadcom changes, and they’ll want a real number before they trust VMware again.
God Bless, and Use the Source!
