22-Year Apple Veteran Todd Dailey Travels With an M1 MacBook Pro Running Omarchy

“After 22 years of working for Apple and always traveling with a Mac laptop, this weekend I brought a Mac but not macOS.” That’s Todd Dailey on X. His M1 MacBook Pro is running Omarchy, and the post was close to 121,000 views by Sunday.

What works

“Everything works! WiFi on the plane, Apple Music, speakers, airdrop.” Apple Music runs as a web app, AirDrop with his iPhone works through omdrop, and he says “Claude, grok bot, discord, all my go to apps just work.” He even had Claude build him a custom Touch Bar with barux.

What doesn’t (yet)

He’s honest about it: sleep and resume are the main problem. Lid-close sleep works, deep sleep doesn’t, and he expects fixes “in a week or two.” He also says switching is “pretty hard to be honest” with a whole new windowing system, and 8GB is a little tight.

My take

Seeing a long-time Apple guy carry Omarchy on a Mac is a big deal, and I like that he’s straight about the rough edges. Deep sleep on Apple Silicon isn’t there yet, so if you travel with it, plan on shutting the lid and keeping a charger close.

God Bless, and Needs Garlic!
