Update: The Next Omarchy Drops the Notification Panel and Snooze, and the Bell Goes Back to Do Not Disturb

Update to my Omarchy 4.5 RC1 post. One of the RC1 headline features, the rebuilt notification system, is getting a lot simpler before the final release.

What changed

  • On October 23, DHH merged two pull requests into the quattro branch. The first, #16429, removes snooze: no more zzz button, no per-source or global snooze, and no “Suggest snooze during screen sharing” setting. Right-click dismisses a card again.
  • The second, #16430, “removes the notification panel and every notification setting, leaving their current defaults hardcoded.” The bar bell is “back to a plain Do Not Disturb toggle, as it was before Omapager.”
  • Nothing silenced gets lost. Notifications that arrive during Do Not Disturb are still saved in history, and Super + Shift + Alt + , brings them back.
  • An earlier trim on October 22 (#16277) dropped phone-number and meeting-link detection. Links still get Open link and codes still get Copy code.
  • DHH says the notification, i18n and contract tests pass, but the VM acceptance suite wasn’t run. The RC1 ISO still ships the full panel and snooze.

My take

Honestly? I’m good with this. Omarchy is at its best when it ships sane defaults instead of a settings maze. A bell that just means Do Not Disturb, plus a hotkey to pull back what you missed, is all I need. If you’re testing RC1, know that what you see now isn’t what ships.

Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
