Update: Jordan Strikes Back After the Karak Church Attack, and Middle East Christians Fear for Their Future

Update: This follows my post on the funeral attack at St George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Karak.

What’s new

Jordan launched airstrikes into southern Syria on Monday, saying it killed more than 20 Islamic State militants it ties to the church attack. Charisma, citing Reuters, says the death toll from the attack is now nine. Syria says seven civilians died in the strikes and closed the border crossing. Jordan has arrested three men, and King Abdullah II ordered an “iron fist” response.

The same day, Aid to the Church in Need released its “Persecuted and Forgotten?” report covering August 2024 to June 2026. Conditions for Christians got worse in more than half of the 18 countries it watches, and believers in the Middle East say they’re not sure their future there is sustainable.

My take

Remember what the Karak church leaders said: “We shall not be driven to leave our land.” That’s courage you only get from the Holy Spirit. Pray for them by name this week. Pray for comfort for the nine families, for protection, and for the Gospel to keep going forward in the land where it started. “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

God Bless, and Use the Source!
