Update: Fedora Linux 45 Is Out

An update to my Fedora 45 GO post. It’s officially released.

Highlights

  • Stratis storage built into the Anaconda installer: pools across drives, thin provisioning, snapshots and encryption. You can launch Cockpit’s storage module from the installer, and Kickstart gets --type=stratis
  • Updated GNOME, KDE Plasma and spins with better Wayland and fractional scaling
  • New toolchains and kernel, with better laptop power management
  • Editions: Workstation, KDE Plasma Desktop, Server, Cloud, CoreOS and IoT, plus the Atomic desktops and spins like COSMIC

From my earlier post: ptrace restricted by default, signature checking enforced, reproducible builds and KMSCON replacing the in-kernel console.

My take

Stratis in the installer is the headline for me. Read the Common Issues page before you upgrade.

God Bless, and Happy hacking!
