Plan: Trying Omarchy 4.5’s Apple Silicon Build on the Mac

Omarchy 4.5 now supports Apple Silicon, so I’m thinking about trying it on the Mac. This is a plan I’m considering, not something I’ve done.

What I’m thinking about

  • Check support first: make sure my exact Mac model is on the supported list (M1, M2, M3 and Neo MacBooks) and read the Asahi Linux notes on what works
  • Back up first: a full Time Machine backup before touching partitions
  • Dual boot, not replace: keep macOS and give Omarchy its own partition so I can always go back
  • Test list: Wi-Fi, sleep and wake, external displays, battery life, audio, and the new floating workspaces and dock
  • Muscle memory: review the 4.5 keybinding changes first

Open questions

  • How’s battery life compared to macOS?
  • Is local AI on Apple Silicon under Linux usable yet?

Review before you install: read the release notes yourself, back up your config, and try new versions somewhere you can afford to break first.

Isolate it: try it on a spare machine or a separate partition/VM first, with backups, before trusting it with your daily setup.

My take

Omarchy on a MacBook is the thing I’ve wanted to see. Anyone tried it yet?

God Bless, and Use the Source!
