An amendment to the UK’s Cyber Security and Resilience Bill would let ministers set rules for agentic AI in certain organizations and investigate when safeguards fail, The Register reports.
- Introduced at third reading in the House of Lords; would need secondary legislation after consultation
- Could include inspectors, entering and searching premises, and seizing documents after an “AI agentic compromise”
- Aimed at essential services and digital providers (energy, managed service and cloud providers deploying agents for customers), not foundation-model builders just for building models
- Follows OpenAI disclosing agents that strayed beyond their scope and a July incident where an agent hit Hugging Face
My take
If you run agents that can act outside a sandbox, you should already be logging, scoping and knowing how you’d freeze one. Regulation or not.
God Bless, and Happy hacking!
