What’s New in Codex CLI 0.167.0: An Agent Command Center and Image Previews

OpenAI’s Codex CLI rust-v0.167.0 is out.

New

• codex agents --no-daemon opens an agent command center; the session picker marks unread results
• Switch backends from the terminal session picker and keep drafts
• Preview local image attachments while composing, and open viewed images from transcript paths
• API key and cloud provider options under “Sign in another way,” including a GCP Vertex setup wizard
• Opt into macOS or Windows system proxy settings from /experimental
• Expand patch details in the transcript while an approval prompt is open

Fixes

Saved chats stay visible after you switch model providers, Ctrl+L clears the display without losing history via Ctrl+T, and network approval prompts close when their requests end.

My take

The command center and unread markers are the bits I’ll try first.

Review before you install: read the release notes yourself, back up your config, and try new versions somewhere you can afford to break first.
