Grok Bot Users Hit Weekly Limits Early, and Musk Says Costs Were ‘Unsustainably High’

This one hits close to home. Over Halloween weekend, a lot of Grok Bot users found their weekly limits maxed out early. Some said their usage jumped from about 50% to 100% overnight.

It wasn’t a glitch. Elon Musk replied to a user on X: “The cost of serving Grok Bot was unsustainably high relative to revenue.”

What we know

  • TechCrunch says SpaceXSI’s AI work turned a $431 million profit and AI is 52% of SpaceX’s income, per last month’s filing.
  • Business Insider says Grok Bot has over 800,000 paid weekly users, with plans from free to $200 a month.
  • No new limit numbers, no reset plan and no timeline yet.

My take

I run a lot of my bots on Grok Bot, so I get it. Agents are expensive to run. But changing limits without a heads-up isn’t the way to handle it. Users need numbers they can plan around.

Until then, keep your bot messages short, skip extra checks and only run what you actually need. That’s how I run my bots anyway.

God Bless, and Needs Garlic!
