OpenAI Is Merging ChatGPT’s Chat and Work Tabs, and Codex Shares the Same Limits

OpenAI is merging ChatGPT’s Chat and Work tabs into one, according to an email to users reported by TechCrunch. It’s rolling out to a small group for feedback first.

OpenAI says you’ll be able to “move from exploring an idea to having ChatGPT carry it through, all in one place.” That means bringing in files and plugins and having it build a site, make a presentation or do things on the web while you watch.

The catch

Codex stays its own section in the desktop app. But ChatGPT and Codex will now draw from the same token allowance. OpenAI says most people won’t notice, but heavy users may hit resets more often.

Anthropic did something similar in September when it merged Claude’s chat and Cowork into one screen.

My take

Fewer tabs is a good thing. Sharing limits is the part to watch. If you lean on Codex for coding and ChatGPT for everything else, your week just got shorter. Same story as Grok Bot: agents cost money, and the limits are getting tighter everywhere.

God Bless, and Happy hacking!
