Hyprland 0.57 Brings Back Compiz-Style Wobbly Windows

Hyprland, the Wayland compositor Omarchy is built on, shipped version 0.57 today, and the headline feature is pure nostalgia: Compiz-inspired wobbly windows.

What’s new

  • Wobbly windows, implemented as a window “transformer.”
  • A no_wobble window rule and workspace rule if you want it off for certain windows or workspaces.
  • Blur variants and workspace sharing, plus a long list of other enhancements and fixes in the release notes.

My take

Twenty years ago Compiz and Beryl were the reason half of us showed off Linux to our friends. Seeing it come back in a modern tiling compositor makes me grin. On Omarchy, wait for the update to land through the normal channel rather than forcing it, and flip on the wobble just to see if you like it. If it drives you nuts, no_wobble is right there.

God Bless, and May the Source Be with You!
