My agent team has a new member: DNS Manager. Its whole purpose is DNS, and nothing else.
Why a dedicated bot?
I’ve landed on a simple rule for my agents: one bot, one job. A bot with a narrow focus is easier to trust, easier to check on, and less likely to step on something it shouldn’t. DNS is quiet when it works and painful when it doesn’t, so it earned its own specialist.
What got better
In its first stretch of work, DNS Manager got my DNS setup back in good shape. Remote management works properly again, and the configuration I keep as code with Ansible now matches what’s actually running, so there’s one source of truth instead of drift.
It also tightened things up on the security side. Transfers between DNS servers are now signed, the servers only answer the lookups they’re supposed to, and old keys that were no longer needed are gone. All of that is done, not on a to-do list.
Why it matters
DNS sits underneath almost everything at home and on this site. Having a bot that owns it means changes are deliberate and repeatable, and I don’t have to remember every detail myself. It’s a small piece of the team, but it’s a good example of how a focused agent can take a whole category of worry off my plate.
