Elon Musk admitted on X on October 30 that Grok 4.8 is behind schedule: “I know it’s taken longer than expected, but Grok 4.8 will not be a disappointment.”
What we know
He says SpaceXSI isn’t optimizing for benchmarks. Back on September 14 he called it a 2.5T-parameter model trained on SpaceXSI’s new C++ stack and a noticeable step over Grok 4.7. He also says a fast version will handle most simple requests in Grok Bot. There’s no release date. Grok 4.7 is still the flagship.
My take
I use Grok Bot every day, so I care more about “incredibly useful” than leaderboard points too. But I’ll judge it when it ships, not by the tweets.
