Happy Reformation Day. Crosswalk’s prayer for today, by Lynette Kittle, starts with “This Little Light of Mine” and lands on Martin Luther.
A revelation, not a résumé
Luther tried everything to earn God’s approval: hours of confession, punishing himself, working harder than anyone. None of it was enough. Then, studying the Word, the Holy Spirit opened his eyes to Romans 1:17: “The righteous will live by faith.” Grace, not effort. That revelation set him on fire, and he put the Bible into German so ordinary people could read it for themselves.
My take
I love that the Reformation started with one man getting a revelation from the Spirit, not a committee. Jesus said, “Let your light shine before others” (Matthew 5:16), and Paul says we “were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord” (Ephesians 5:8). You don’t light yourself. Ask Him to fill you with His Spirit again today, and let Him do the shining.
Lord, fill us fresh with Your Spirit and let Your light shine through us into a dark world. Amen.
God Bless, and Use the Source!
