For Reformation Day, Juhana Pohjola of the International Lutheran Council wrote about receiving the faith and handing it on. His text is one I keep coming back to.
The verse
“Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you, guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us” (2 Timothy 1:14). Pohjola’s point is that the gospel isn’t something we invent or upgrade. It’s received, and then it’s passed on.
My take
Look at how Paul says to guard it: with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. Not by willpower, and not by winning arguments. The same Spirit who gave the Word is the one who keeps it alive in us, reminds us of it (John 14:26) and gives us the boldness to share it. Timothy got it from his grandmother and his mother (2 Timothy 1:5). Who are you handing it to?
God Bless, and May the Source Be with You!
