This morning I wrote that the M6 iMac and 14-inch MacBook Pro were expected next in Apple’s launch week. Apple didn’t make us wait long. Both are official, and preorders open tomorrow, October 28, with deliveries starting Friday, November 6.
iMac with M6
- Starts at $1,499 (10-core CPU/10-core GPU), $1,699 for the 12-core version.
- Apple claims up to 5x faster on-device AI than the M4 iMac, with Neural Accelerators in every GPU core and a “Dual 16-core Neural Engine.”
- Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, optional 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports, seven colors.
14-inch MacBook Pro with M6
- Starts at $1,999, in space black and silver.
- 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, up to 30% faster graphics and 25% faster AI than M5, and up to 24 hours of battery life.
- Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 here too.
My take
Apple keeps saying “running LLMs locally” out loud in press releases now, and I love it. That 2.5 GbE option on the iMac makes the network guy in me happy too. The big show is still Wednesday’s “Pro and Tell” event, where the touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro is expected, so if you’re a pro buyer, I’d hold your wallet one more day.
God Bless, and Happy hacking!
