Update: Kirk Franklin on ‘Free Me Tonight,’ Regrets and a Freer Kind of Grace

An update to my earlier Kirk Franklin post. The Christian Post has more from the same interview around his album I Am What I Am.

What’s new

The opening track, “Free Me Tonight,” names it out loud: disappointing his son, putting the hustle ahead of home, and still finding “no condemnation.” At 56 he says, “I’m older and I’m freer now.” Music was the first thing that told him it loved him, and he’s still learning how to balance that with the people closest to him.

“I’m sorry that the failures that you read about [King] David, you get to see in real time in Kirk.”

My take

That’s Holy Spirit honesty. “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). Bring the mess to Him. Don’t polish it first.

God Bless, and Use the Source!
