Apple sent a memo to Apple Stores and Authorized Service Providers this week on how to diagnose and fix the iPhone Duo’s inner display cracking, MacRumors reports.
What we know
- Techs are told to inspect the phone and repair or replace it under standard procedures.
- Apple says only “a small number” of units are affected, and those fail quickly after use.
- There’s no recall and no public repair program yet. If yours shows the line, contact AppleCare for a replacement.
- iFixit’s teardown points to a defective hinge. Apple hasn’t named a cause.
One week later
MacRumors’ Dan Barbera revisited his review after a week. Nobody on their team has had a crack. He likes the small outer screen for quick replies, the unfolded portrait mode for video plus an app, and says Touch ID is easy to find. Battery life sits between the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. The cameras are just okay, and he misses a telephoto. Still, it’s the most excited he’s been about an iPhone in a long time.
My take
A memo to stores means it’s more than a handful. If your Duo has been fine for a week, you’re probably in the clear, but keep your receipt handy. And watch out for AI-faked crack photos going around.
