Five decades ago, doctors told Sara O’Meara that cancer had spread through her body and she had about three months to live. She was 30. On CBN’s “Heaven Meets Earth” podcast she told the story of what happened next, and Charisma wrote it up this week.
The story
Sara had started out as an actress (she was on Ozzie & Harriet), and on a USO tour in Japan she and her friend Yvonne Federson saw kids in need and started what became Childhelp. Then came the diagnosis. From her hospital bed she saw Kathryn Kuhlman on TV and said, “I needed a miracle.” Against her doctor’s orders, fresh out of surgery, she went to Kuhlman’s healing service at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. She says she had a profound encounter with God there, and medical tests shortly after confirmed she was healed.
My take
I love this one because it’s not a one-night highlight. It’s 50 years of His faithfulness. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8), and the gifts of the Spirit didn’t retire with the early church. If you’re carrying a bad report right now, don’t stop asking. “By his wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). Get in a place where faith is in the air, get people praying over you, and expect Him to move.
