UK retail giant Tesco looks set to replace VMware with Proxmox in its stores, The Register reports, based on a job ad for a Head of Software Engineering for its Edge Platform.
What the ad says
The role owns “the migration from VMware to Proxmox across the edge estate” and building an Edge Management Platform to provision, monitor and maintain thousands of store locations, which have to keep running through connectivity drops and tight local resources.
My take
When a retailer that size bets its store edge on open-source Proxmox, that’s a big signal for everyone weighing VMware’s pricing. Homelabbers figured this out a while ago.
