Starting with iOS, iPadOS, macOS and visionOS 27.3, Apple will check iCloud items shared with “Anyone with the Link” for “harmful content,” The Register reports from a new Apple support page.
What we know
- It applies only to public “anyone with the link” shares, not content shared directly with specific people
- Those public links already drop end-to-end encryption, even with Advanced Data Protection on
- Apple “reserves the right to move, refuse, modify, remove, or delete the content,” may disable accounts, and may involve law enforcement
- Apple hasn’t defined “harmful content” or said whether humans, automation or AI do the checking
My take
A public link was never private. But a vague rule with no definition and no stated appeal process is worth watching. For anything sensitive, share directly with people instead of creating a public link.
God Bless, and May the Source Be with You!
